I’m getting a noticeable hum when I connect a turntable to my Ruark

If you hear a noticeable hum when you connect a turntable to your Ruark, then this is almost certainly caused by a ground loop between the components in your system. We must emphasise that this is not a fault, but simply the fact that some experimentation is often required to resolve ground loop noise with turntables. What complicates the matter is that not all manufacturers ground their turntables in the same way.
Depending on the earthing arrangements of other components in your system, sometimes the earth tag from a turntable (if it has one) does not need to be connected to the earth post on the back of our products at all, but if a significant hum is heard, then the first thing to try is running a single length of cable from the earth post on your Ruark to a suitable household ground. This could be a non-painted radiator pipe or alternatively the ground/earth on most mains sockets. Experiment with this and usually the noise stops immediately.
