Made in England project

All our early Ruark Acoustic speakers were produced in the UK, but at the turn of the millennium, we found this increasingly difficult and sensed that we needed to change, so in 2004 we started development of our compact audio range, launching our original R1 DAB/FM tabletop radio in November 2006.

As always, all our design and engineering was done at our UK headquarters, but for the first time we started seeking manufacturing facilities overseas. Lack of investment and industrial unrest over the years had scarred UK manufacturing, but in Asia we found factories that had invested heavily in the latest production technologies along with staff keen to take on new challenges.

With MiE project we aim to take quality to a level that can only be achieved through hands-on interaction and production that is not controlled by time

Nonetheless, this does not mean that UK manufacturing is lost. We pride ourselves on the quality of the products we produce with our team in China, but in workshops across the UK you can still find passionate craftspeople making bespoke and beautiful products, but production quantities are usually low due to the hands-on construction and finishing methods used.

For some time we have dreamt of bringing some production back to the UK. Volume production is not currently viable, but with our MiE project we aim to take quality to a level that can only be achieved through hands-on interaction and production that is not controlled by time, and time is what makes our MiE project special.
