Through careful design we aim to make our products intuitive to use and with our custom ‘RotoDial’ controller all R4i functions can be easily controlled. Exclusively for R4i we've taken our RotoDial concept a stage further so it can be detached and also function as a fantastic hand held remote-control. With its tactile design, it sits comfortably in the hand and sitting on your coffee table it will be a guaranteed talking point.
R4i’s slot loading CD player plays standard music CDs and will also play CD-Rs encoded with WAV, MP3 or WMA music files. With the aid of a computer and suitable program, users can create MP3 playlists and record CDs that will play for many hours. As an alternative we’ve also provided a USB port which will play back MP3 audio files downloaded onto USB flash memory sticks.
On the rear panel are two pairs of high quality phono sockets. The first provides output for recording or hook-up to secondary systems and the second provides an input for the connection of a TV or for devices such as a Bluetooth adaptor, so music can be wirelessly streamed to R4i. With a range of up to 10m uPlay allows you to stream music with clarity from any Bluetooth enabled device to R4i.
Behind R4i's RotoDial dock we’ve provided an integrated iPod Dock which supports and charges all iPod models produced from January 2004 to September 2012. For later iPod/iPhone models with Lightning connector we’ve created an adaptor called LAS which combines seamlessly with R4i for a totally unified look. Find out more about LAS. For customers not wanting iPod integration, R4i comes supplied with a clip in cover to keep the top panel looking clean and tidy.
From our years spent designing high-end loudspeakers we understand the importance of cabinet and drive unit design to create a good sound, free from colouration and distortion. The enclosure of R4i is hand-crafted from materials chosen for their exceptional acoustic properties and likewise our drive units are carefully designed and constructed to allow optimum dynamics with a smooth natural frequency response.
Most compact systems use amplifier chipsets for simplicity and cost, but for R4i we developed our own Class A-B amplifier system using discrete component technology. This complex technique is usually only found in prestige, high value audio separates.
