Questions and Answers

Why do only some of my audio CDs show song/artist data?

This answer applies to R4 Mk3 R5 Mk1 R7 Mk3

Track information will only be shown on R4, R5 and R7 if the CD is encoded with CD-Text. CD-Text is an extension of the Red Book standard for audio CDs and allows for additional information such as song name and artist name to be stored on the CD. If CD-Text is not available then R4 and R7 will only display track number and time.

For CDs that you have created yourself in WAV or MP3/AAC format, then in general R4 and R7 will display track information. If this is not the case, please check the settings in the programme you use to create your discs.

Some car entertainment systems (particularly those with Satellite Navigation) have a disc recognition database built in called Gracenote but the system requires regular updates so new music releases are included. This is usually offered when the car is serviced.
