Depending on your distance from transmitters, or if your home is surrounded by hills or tall buildings, then you may find that signal strength is insufficient to provide clear and reliable playback. On DAB this will result in burbling sound and on FM you will hear unwanted background noise.
Like TVs, modern DAB/FM radios require a good quality signal for them to work properly. If you are using the aerial that came supplied with your Ruark then you should ensure that this has been correctly fitted and fully extended for best reception. If this is not the case, then your reception quality will suffer and it is also likely that some stations will not have been detected during the initial scan. To correct this a new AutoScan or System Reset should be performed with the aerial fitted and fully extended.
In most circumstances the supplied aerial should be perfectly adequate, but if your radio reception is poor, then you should consider the fitting of an external aerial for best reception quality. Even in good areas an external aerial will guarantee optimum performance and will also allow you access to stations which are out of range for an indoor aerial.
